Cavani set the tone for Man Utd response with ´best training performance´ Solskjaer has seen

Edinson Cavani set the tone for Manchester United s response to humiliation at the hands of Liverpool by producing the best training performance Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen in his three years as manager.

United were crushed 5-0 at home by Liverpool last Sunday, a defeat that for a time looked to have cost Solskjaer his job.

The Norwegian was given more time by the club s hierarchy and United responded well on Saturday, beating Tottenham 3-0 on the road in what was the Red Devils biggest away win over Spurs since February 2007 (4-0).

Solskjaer switched to a back three and partnered Cavani up front with Cristiano Ronaldo, both of whom found the net. Their combination for the Uruguayan s strike was the first time two players aged 34 or older linked up for a Premie…

PSV want Alderweireld

PSV Eindhoven are interested in signing Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.

The experienced defender was brought through the ranks at the Ajax academy, and he earned first-team promotion in 2009. In 2013 he was sold to Atletico Madrid and moved on to Southampton a year later, on a season-long loan upon the expiry of which he made his way to Spurs. Since then, he has made a total of 216 appearances in all competitions at club level, scoring nine goals.

The 31-year-old reportedly came close to leaving the north-Londoners a year ago as his previous contract approached its end, but he signed a new one instead, binding him to the club until 2023. Of the 17 Premier League games Spurs have played this season, he started 11 and was …

Coutinho´s World Cup place in doubt as Villa rule out Brazil international

Philippe Coutinho s hopes of representing Brazil at the World Cup are in doubt after the Aston Villa man suffered a quadriceps injury in training.

Coutinho was a surprise absentee from the matchday squad as Unai Emery s Villa beat Manchester United 3-1 in the Spaniard s first game at the helm on Sunday.

The former Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich creator has failed to score in 12 Premier League appearances this season – although six of those outings have come as a substitute.

The 30-year-old s poor form saw him miss out on Tite s squad when Brazil beat Tunisia and Ghana in September, though he has won five of his 68 senior caps for the Selecao this calendar year.

However, Coutinho s chances of travelling to Qatar appear to be slim after Emery rule…

Klopp has no intention of resigning from Liverpool

Despite all the problems his team has faced this season, Jurgen Klopp has no intention of leaving his post as the Liverpool manager, according to his agent, Marc Kosicke.

This statement, made by the agent to Sky in Germany, comes in the light of several pundits suggesting Klopp might well decide to jump ship, not being a manager who wants his team for fight for anything less than the very top.

But those pundits, former Arsenal star Paul Merson the most prominent among them, have obviously left a few important details out of their calculations. Klopp took over at Liverpool back in 2015, when they were some way off the top of the English and European game, and built a team that won every trophy on offer since. And speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool s clash with Napo…
