Klopp has no intention of resigning from Liverpool

Despite all the problems his team has faced this season, Jurgen Klopp has no intention of leaving his post as the Liverpool manager, according to his agent, Marc Kosicke.

This statement, made by the agent to Sky in Germany, comes in the light of several pundits suggesting Klopp might well decide to jump ship, not being a manager who wants his team for fight for anything less than the very top.

But those pundits, former Arsenal star Paul Merson the most prominent among them, have obviously left a few important details out of their calculations. Klopp took over at Liverpool back in 2015, when they were some way off the top of the English and European game, and built a team that won every trophy on offer since. And speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool s clash with Napo…

Charlotte FC v D.C. United: Lesesne hoping to tune out distractions ahead of trip to the Crown

Troy Lesesne is confident that D.C. United have the right players to get a result against a difficult Charlotte FC on Saturday.

D.C. have failed to win any of their last five matches, though did come from 2-0 down against Toronto FC to draw before the mid-season break.

They sit 10th in the Eastern Conference with 19 points, and despite missing a lot of players, Lesesne believes he has a squad capable of snapping their winless streak.

We re not going to put energy into what we don t have, he said. We re going to put all our focus onto a difficult opponent in Charlotte. It s a great atmosphere there, but it s a team we feel we can match up against and hopefully get some points.

We have a task at hand and a capable group to get the job done this weekend. W…

Neymar at 30: Trophies galore, but no Ballon d´Or – how Brazil star compares with fellow birthday bo

Perhaps there is something special to February 5. Or at least there is when it comes to world-class footballers.

On this day in 1985, Cristiano Ronaldo was born on the island of Madeira. Seven years later, Neymar came into the world in Mogi das Cruzes, in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.

Two of modern football s greats being born on the same day is quite the quirk, but while Ronaldo has gone on to cement himself as one of the best ever, it s hard to shake the feeling Neymar has never quite lived up to his extraordinary potential.

He emerged at Santos as Brazil s golden boy, a bona fide superstar in the making. By the time he left for Barcelona in 2013 at the age of 21, he was already been talked up as a shoo-in for a Ballon d Or success.

Yet, as the …
