Market: Atletico Madrid win
Odds: 1/1 @
Looking to extend their buffer at the top of the La Liga table this weekend, Atletico Madrid will make the trip to Getafe on Saturday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Getafe might have hoped they could build off of that 3-0 victory against Valencia when drawing a close to February, it appears that was just a minor bounce for The Blues. Despite only just about missing out on another European finish last season, many in José Bordalás camp will still be looking over their shoulder at the drop zone. Making an immediate return to losing ways last time out thanks to a 2-1 defeat against Real Valladolid, Getafe have now lost five of their last six La Liga matchups and the mood in their camp could be at a real low. Facing what is a stern test on home soil this weekend, it should also be noted that The Blues have recorded just a single top-flight victory since January 20th. Knowing they could end the weekend as low as 17th in the table, the pressure is starting to mount on Bordalás shoulders.
As for the visitors, although Atletico Madrid might have shown some inconsistencies over the past six weeks, Diego Simeone s men still find themselves sat in pole position to lift their first La Liga title since 2014. Opening this weekend s fixtures holding a six-point buffer at the top of the table, they also managed to bounce back from that derby day stalemate against Los Blancos last weekend. Despite watching the defending champions snatch a last-gasp point, Simeone s men picked up a 2-1 victory against Athletic Bilbao earlier in the week. Smelling a real chance on their travels this weekend, there is no doubt that Atletico have continued to impress with their performances on the road. Including a 2-0 victory away at Villarreal in their last contest outside the capital, Saturday s guests are unbeaten in their previous seven La Liga away fixtures, winning six of those appearances.
